Choosing the right cosmetic surgery clinic (https://www.ritzplasticsurgery.com.au) for your procedure already puts you on the right path to having a positive surgical experience. Reputable surgeons will ensure that you have all the information and support you need from your consultation right through to your recovery.

Many patients are so busy planning their surgery that they often forget recovery takes planning too. These tips will ensure your recovery goes as smoothly as possible.

5 Plastic Surgery Recovery Preparation Tips

Get Organised

You may think you won’t have a problem remembering dates, times and appointments but as you get closer to the date of your surgery, your mind is definitely going to be preoccupied. Whether you prefer to use a digital planner or a good old-fashioned planner that you can write in, keep one on hand from the moment you step into your consultation. Making notes and jotting down important dates such as post-operative appointments means you can focus solely on your recovery after your surgery. The more organised you are, the easier your recovery will be.

Hit the Shops

Your life is going to be a lot easier if you can get home to a kitchen full of food. Stock up on fresh food and any medications that you’ll need the day before your surgery. It’s important to remember that certain types of supplements and medications are not recommended after surgery so check with your surgeon what you can use for pain and to boost your recovery.

Organise Your Home

Depending on the type of surgery you will be having, your movement may be restricted, which is why it helps to organise your home prior to your surgery. If you know that you won’t be able to lift your arms above your head, keep your button up clothing in an easily-accessible place. If you won’t be able to bend or stretch certain areas of your body, keep all of your kitchen and bathroom essentials at chest height. You also want to make sure that you have a good supply of blankets, pillows and ice packs at home.

Plan Your Activities

How are you planning to keep busy during your recovery? Want to catch up on your favourite movies? Make sure that you have the DVDs or movie files ready for when you get home. If you’re planning to read some books, purchase them before your surgery and set them up in your bedroom or wherever you will be resting.

Organise Your Transport

Patients aren’t able to drive after most surgical procedures, which is why you should arrange for someone to collect you after your procedure. If possible, get them to free up their day so that they can help you get settled at home too. If you have children at home, make sure that someone will be able to drive them around. You may also want to make sure that you have someone to call should you need to get to your surgeon’s offices or the store.

By taking the time to complete the above steps before your surgery, you can approach your procedure with confidence knowing everything is sorted for when you get home.

Arthroplasty, or knee replacement surgery, is a procedure that is carried out when an artificial joint is implanted to replace a damaged or diseased knee. The surgery may be necessary for adults of all ages, but it’s most commonly carried out on older adults between the ages of sixty and eighty. However, there’s an increasing number of people who are receiving this operation at a younger age.

Knee replacement surgery is usually required when the knee joint has damage or wear to the extent where mobility is reduced and pain is experienced, even when resting. Osteoarthritis is one of the most common reasons for knee replacement surgery, along with conditions such as gout, hemophilia, and rheumatoid arthritis. Since the procedure is major surgery, it’s usually only offered when all other treatment options have been exhausted.

When You May Be Offered Knee Replacement Surgery:

You may be offered knee replacement surgery if you are experiencing knee pain that is so severe it interferes with your quality of life, ability to move, and ability to sleep. It’s also an option if you have found that everyday tasks, such as bathing, shopping or driving have become extremely difficult or impossible. If you’re no longer able to work or have a normal social life and have become depressed due to your pain and lack of mobility, knee replacement surgery could be an option for you.

Total Knee Replacement:

Total knee replacement is when both sides of your knee joint are replaced by an artificial joint. This is the most common form of knee replacement surgery. Your surgeon will replace both the surfaces of the thigh bone and shin bone which connects to the knee. Because it is quite an expensive procedure, you may consider medical tourism for total knee replacement. Partial Knee Replacement:

This is an option for patients with arthritis that only affects one side of their knee. However, bear in mind that even if it’s only one side of your knee that’s affected, you will need to have strong knee ligaments in order to be considered.

Kneecap Replacement:

This type of knee replacement surgery involves the replacement of only the under-surface of the kneecap. However, it’s worth being aware that many surgeons will advise against this procedure, as total knee replacement tends to have a much higher success rate in comparison.

Complex or Revision Replacement:

If you have very severe arthritis or have already undergone any kind of knee replacement surgery in the past but are still experiencing pain and discomfort, you may require complex or revision replacement. This could involve making repairs to a current artificial joint or replacing it altogether with another one.

How Long Can I Expect it to Last?

When doctors first started carrying out knee replacement surgery in the early 1970s, the artificial joints at the time would last around a decade. Today, implants typically last around twenty years or even more. And by 2030, it’s estimated that doctors will perform around 450,000 replacement surgeries every year.
