A meniscus tear is a tear in the cartilage that cushions the knee. These tears may occur in the knee rotator cuff, which is the ligament that stretches across the front of your thigh bone. There are many common symptoms and complications that can develop as a result of meniscus tear manteca. You should consult with an orthopedic surgeon immediately if you have any symptoms.
Following are the common signs and symptoms of meniscus tear:
- Pain
No different than any other injury, there is pain associated with the meniscus tear, as well. Even though the meniscus is a shock-absorbing cartilage, you can still feel pain when a tear occurs. This pain can be anything from an ache to a sharp or stabbing pain. Typically, if you have a tear of the meniscus, you will feel pain when flexing your knee.
- Instability
If the tear occurs over a part of the knee that has a certain role in shock absorption, then there can be a lot of instability. It can cause pain upon movement. If you are overweight or obese, this could also contribute to instability and further complication. You should inform your doctor if this is the case.
- Swelling
You should always inform your doctor if you are experiencing a lot of swelling. Some people can experience large amounts of fluid coming from the knee. Sometimes swelling can be accompanied by pain, inability to bend properly, or joint lock up. This is a red flag, and you should seek immediate medical attention.
- Stiffness
If the meniscus is torn, there can be a lot of stiffness. This can include stiffness in the morning when you wake up or at night. You should always inform your doctor about any sort of stiffness you experience. If a tear occurs in the ligaments that run across the front of your thigh bone, then there may be a loss of mobility in that area, which leads to stiffness.
- Knee locking
This can be a sign that the pain is getting worse or more severe. You should always notify your doctor about knee locking, it is a major indicator that you could have a more serious condition.
- Weakness
If a meniscus tear occurs, this may affect the muscular support of the knee. You may feel weakness or a lack of muscular power in the knee area. This can be a major indicator that the tear is getting worse and more severe. So, you should immediately seek medical attention if you notice any sort of weakness.
