Unfortunately, countries having high population also have a high rate of smokers. For instance in India, Over a million have lung cancer yearly which is regarded as the most common form of cancer in India. And most of the people diagnosed with this lung cancer are smokers. Also, the major reason for lung cancer is tobacco smoking. Therefore, in order to reduce and discourage the rate of smoking, various measures were taken such as the introduction of an Anti-tobacco day(31st of every year) created to discourage the use of any form of tobacco and create awareness about the adverse effects of tobacco use.

However, with the various campaigns against smoking or tobacco use, it seems there is little or no change to the rate at which people use . One of the most widely used ways people try to quit smoking is by trying to chew nicotine gum or the use of nicotine patches India. While some recommend the use of electronic cigarettes also known as e-cigarettes in order to quit smoking, but the most important question is do they actually stop people from smoking?. in order to answer this type of question, various researches have been carried out. Such as research conducted earlier in 2019 (February) which compared the use of e-cigarettes or vaping (vaping is the use of e-cigarettes). With common nicotine replacement therapy and found out that the use of e-cigarettes might be helpful in quitting smoking. The case study was conducted on 900 smokers who were ready to quit. Therefore they were randomly divided into two different halves and a part was given to the e-cigarette while the other was given to the nicotine replacement such as a patch or a nicotine gum. The result showed 10% of people given nicotine replacement therapy had quitted smoking and about 9% of those who quitted still use nicotine products. 18% of those given e-cigarette had stop smoking but still continued vaping and 80% of those who stopped smoking continued vaping. In addition, it was recorded that in the e-cigarettes group, the complaint of congestion and cough had reduced.

However, since vaping creates a sensation of smoking, the only difference being the intake of harmful smoke doesn’t occur in vaping which is suitable. However, the use of e-cigarette not recommends because it fascinates young children who have no idea of the risk attached and might likely lead them to become smokers. Except for cases where vaping is used just as a substitution for smoking. Therefore the use of Nicotine Replacement therapy would be preferable such as nicotine patch, nicotine gum, Ionzenges, Nasal spray, Inhaler in which the latter two requires the prescription of the doctor.

Moreover, since patches are more likely to be easier to make use of than gum or nasal spray, in primary care settings. And the  Nicotine therapy patches act more slowly than gum, however, it does it steadily throughout the day helping to remove irritability,  the urge to snack, and difficulty in concentration. Therefore, the Nicotine patch will be considered in detail. Nicotine patches are used on the skin and are a Transdermal patch that releases nicotine into the body. Also, it is convenient as it provides relief for a long time. Nicotine withdrawal relief is done once a day. The nicotine patch is the most widely used type of nicotine replacement therapy and significantly increases one’s chances of success by 50-70%.
